Holi Leake family party

I was in charge of the Leake March family party this month, so we celebrated spring with a festival of colors, made some home made soap and ate Baked Potatoes.

St. Patricks 5K

Top o' the morning to you!
I spent St Patricks day morning with a bunch of green running peeps.
Lady of the Lourdes Catholic church holds a 5k, 10k benefit run that Jodee has participated in and invited me along for the fun this year.
The weather was warm, the company delightful, power walking 3.5 miles in Memory Grove - a workout, breakfast at Denny's after-Yummy. Some Antique shopping, then home for yard work and some cornbeef and cabbage.
Great St Patricks Day!

This is Chase!
This is Chase tinkering with his car!
This is a very happy Chase!

It is going to take a few years to find the right parts and put this baby back in to operation, but Chase can do it!  The finished project will be fabulous!
Keep dreaming Chase.  Dreams do come true with some elbow grease, time, money and your vision!

The last night of our archery league we had some fun shoots.
Balloons were set up on the wall with prizes under the balloons.  If you shot the balloon you won a prize.
But the best challenge was a ping pong ball hovering in the air blowing out of a wet dry vacuum. It took me four try's, but I nailed one.
Hehe!

Pyper aka Monster

Who can be mad at this cute ball of fur!
It's not easy after she eats shoes, blankets, rugs, clematis vines, asparagus plants and rocks.  But she is a lot of fun.  Pyper has this low growl she uses to talk with and she like to jump around the living room.  We are loving this monster.

Snowflake

When Grandpa was sick we would take soup over to his house on Mondays, to visit and to give Grandma a break from fixing food.
After Grandpa passed we have continued to take soup over on Mondays to visit with Grandma.
We seem to have an extra mouth to feed lately!
This is snowflake, Grandma's kitty.  She jumps on the chair at the bar and watches us!
She is so cute!

Another day hiking to the greatest snow on earth!
We met at the Albion parking lot again, hiked up Grizzly Gulch again, only this time, Tom took us South when we got to the top of the ridge.
See that peak above and to the right of Adam.  That's where we are going!
The views are breathtaking.
 Looking East to Brighton!
OOOH, This would have been fun to ski.  Only getting back to the car from Big Cottonwood Canyon and we were parked at the top of Little Cottonwood would have made for a very long day,  Unless we hike back up.   Um possibilities!
 Instead we climbed this ridge!
 To ski down this slope!
Mount Superior in the background.
Tom, Jamie and Adam climbed to the top and skied back to me so I could take some pictures.  Tom is looking Hot!
 Adam gliding on down!
And Jamie has only been on skiis for a short time.  She is rocking!

Another wonderful morning, hiking, sun and skiing.

Moonlight hiking and sledding!
We thought we would go on a night time adventure.
And what better time than when the moon is full to light our way.
We met in the upper parking lot of Alta and followed Patsey Marley to the top of Albion Chairlift.
It was a little cold standing around in the parking lot waiting for all to arrive!
These chairs were calling our name for pictures and we had to oblige!
 YEAAAAAA!  Let's go!
What's this?  A snowboarder at Alta?  With a patrolman!
Who would have thought....
 This snowboarder gets around...
Kim and Kim!
Now for the fun part.  Down hill!
Morgan, Chase and I went down on our sleds.
Jamie, Bullfrog, and Tom on their skiis.
Adam on his Snowboard
And Kim and Kim hiked.
I think the sleds had the most fun.  Well I did anyway!

Early morning back country skiing

Back Country Skiing at the break of dawn!
The sun is rising in Tom's hands, but it is too bright to see!
Crisp, clear morning.  Looking down into Alta, past Snowbird and into the Salt Lake Valley!
On top of the world with Tom, and Jamie!
Don and Kim on top of the world with us!

So we can have a fantastic powder run!
And we were back to the truck by 1.
It was a great morning!
Thanks Tom for guiding us to the top!

Cow elk in the River Bottom.
Kim and I meet at 6:00 a.m. at the Draper River Bottom trail parking lot.  Some days we walk South, some days we walk North.  We manage between 7-9 miles depending on the morning.  This morning we headed South and just before we got to the Bangeter road crossing we saw this cow elk.  It so made our morning.

The Hills are alive with avalanches!
So today, Jamie, Morgan, Don Trop and I decided to go snowshoeing at Tibble Fork.  We knew we could find some safe hills to adventure into.

We were not disappointed!  Breathtaking scenery!
The snow is not very deep this year, creating some interesting subjects for pictures!
Go ahead Morgan, Shake that limb!

 Lunch Break!
A little sun, great views, And the occasional whump of snow settling on the open hills above us.  This winter has had great conditions for creating avalanches.
First it snows.  Then we don't get any snow for days and the weather either warms up or the wind blows, making unstable snow.  Finally another snow storm and, wala, avalance's are created.
But we took care to stay in the trees, at lower elevations, with minimal exposed open areas and we had a great, safe day!
Walking through a winter wonderland!

Friday, January 27, 2012

Jamie and I went up to Alta to try our new Alpine skiis.  We got there about 3 on a Friday afternoon.  Hiked up Grizzly Gulch for an hour and then came back down as the sun was setting.

 Can you say "Beautiful, Beautiful"
Ray's funeral was Monday and today was Friday,  we were reflecting on the funeral days events.  Grateful for the love shown by family and friends.  Moments spent with Ray.  Concern for some family members, when we were given this gift.  The light breaking through the clouds, a sunset of a different sort, just when the air was turning gray, quiet and cold.  We were not alone!  We were filled with Love!
